Welcome

We are a group of published, established and aspiring writers, meeting in Harpenden with members coming from a wide area.  At our monthly meetings we have an entertaining and educational event programme.

Do you want to write?  Are you looking for new ideas?  Do you like to talk writing with like-minded people?  Here is an opportunity to meet new contacts, develop your writing skills and make friends.  Why not come along to one of our meetings.

We meet on the first Friday of each month at 12 Southdown Road (The Quaker Meeting House) with a programme that runs from September to July (no meeting in August).  We have meetings led by professional writers, in addition to readarounds, special events, and an annual writing competition.

The Works

An excellent introduction to the style, standards and sheer diversity of Harpenden Writers can be found in 'The Works'.  This rich collection of poetry and prose was put together by the members and published in the summer of 2007 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the group.

Reviewing 'The Works', poet and author, John Mole says, "The variety of work included is a tribute both to the high standards set by the group and the success of its members in meeting them."  Jonathan Stroud (author of The Bartimaeus Triology) notes in his review, " ...a hugely impressive collection of prose pieces, encompassing a delightful mixture of styles and forms."
